About Voronezh N.N. Burdenko State Medical University

Federal State-financed Educational Institution of Graduate Education  «Voronezh N.N. Burdenko State Medical University» of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation is known as one of the country’s leading research and teaching centers with more than 8000 students enrolled.

It is one of the oldest educational institutions of Russia. Its history goes back to 1802 – the date of Imperial University of Dorpat opening, which moved to Voronezh in 1918. In 1930 its medical faculty became an independent institution.

The University has proved its worth as an academic institution providing high-quality education and conducting advanced scientific research. The quality of its performance is reflected in the rating scale, according to which the university is included in the top 20 medical schools of Russia.

The Founder of the University is the RF Government. The Founder’s powers and competencies belong to the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. The University is accredited by the Federal Education and Science Supervision Agency.

There are six Faculties, four Institutes and one Research Institute that make up Voronezh N.N. Burdenko State Medical University.

The Faculty of General Medicine is the oldest and biggest one at the University. The Faculty offers a six-year medical education program leading to a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.

Since September 2023 the Faculty offers an undergraduate degree program in Clinical Psychology.

The total number of students: over 3050.

The Faculty of Pediatrics provides medical education in such spheres of healthcare as newborn, infant, child and youth health.

The total number of students: over 1200.

The Institute of Dentistry offers a high in demand undergraduate degree course in Dentistry.

The Institute is one of the few educational bodies in Russia with its very own Dental Clinic, where students can practice supervised by experienced doctors.

The total number of students: over 1100

The Faculty of Preventive Medicine trains future hygienists and epidemiologists. The graduates can work as leading specialists of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing, disinfection and anti-plague stations, laboratories, sanitary services.

The total number of students: 270

The Faculty of Pharmacy educates students in pharmaceutical sciences for more than two decades now. The Faculty provides theoretical knowledge and practical skills for a career on the frontline of the modern pharmacy and pharmaceutical research.

The total number of students: 180

The Faculty for Postgraduate Training provides postgraduate training (residency) in 47 medical specialties.

The total number of students: over 1000

International Institute of Medical Education and Cooperation provides training for international students. Citizens of more than 50 countries comprise 8 % of the university's student body.

The total number of students: over 500

The Institute of Nursing offers a wide variety of programs at the vocational secondary education level: Nursing, Orthopedic Dentistry, Pharmacy.

The total number of students: over 400

The Faculty of Pre-University Training and Monitoring the Employment of Graduates.

The team of the Faculty analyses the employment of graduates to identify employers’ preferences and expectations as an  information resource for adjusting the work programs of students and offers career counseling services to the prospective University students.
